ABOUT PROVENANCE

Empowering Artists Through Immutable Provenance

Mission

Our Mission

Provenance is dedicated to helping artists establish and maintain the complete history of their work. We provide a trusted platform where artists can create certificates of authentication, document ownership transfers, and track the journey of their art from creation through every sale and location.

In an art world where authenticity and provenance are paramount, we believe every artist deserves the tools to protect their legacy and ensure their work's history remains accurate, verifiable, and permanent.

Platform

What We Provide

Updatable COA, COO & COI · Artist-first toolset

Artists, collectors, and institutions can create certificates for their work, establishing a permanent record of the artwork's origin. Each certificate is uniquely numbered and can be verified by collectors, galleries, and institutions. The best solution is shared provenance: everyone who handles the work stays aligned on one authoritative record.

Institutional tools

Run a serious collection from the same place you catalog: issue professional invoices with payment tracking and PDFs; generate artwork loan agreements with terms, insurance requirements, and digital signatures; and print exhibition- or storage-ready labels with artwork details and QR codes that link straight to certificates. Cataloging and provenance stay alongside those records so financial, exhibition, and custody history do not drift apart.

Provenance API

Chain of custody is only as good as the systems that can record it: sales, loans, transfers, and locations need to land in one timeline as work moves between people and venues. Our API lets galleries, platforms, and institutions integrate Provenance so those events sync automatically—issue and verify certificates, pull object data, and keep custody current in the tools your team already uses.

Provenance Tracking

Maintain a complete chain of custody for your artwork. Document every sale, transfer, and location change. Know where your art has been sold, who has owned it, and where it currently resides. This comprehensive history adds value and authenticity to your work.

Perspective

Why Provenance Matters

Provenance—the documented history of an artwork's ownership and authenticity—is one of the most critical factors in determining an artwork's value and legitimacy. Without proper documentation, even genuine works can be questioned, and artists lose control over their work's narrative.

By providing artists with the tools to create and maintain comprehensive provenance records from the moment of creation, we help protect their work's integrity, increase its value, and preserve their artistic legacy for future generations.

Horizon

Roadmap

What we are building next with artists and partners—layered onto the same platform you use today, so nothing you publish now is left behind.

01

Blockchain verification

Coming soon: All certificates and provenance records will be secured on the Avalanche blockchain, ensuring immutability and permanent verification. This blockchain-backed system provides an unalterable record that can be trusted by collectors, auction houses, and museums worldwide.

02

Certificates in the mail

Order premium printed certificates of authenticity, mailed to your studio or directly to a collector. Pair the live digital record with a physical document for vault files, shipments, and the wall-adjacent story of the work.

03

ProvenData API

An API for data provenance: who touched a dataset, how it was transformed, and where it moved next—so teams can show lineage and custody with clarity. Designed with European operators in mind, it supports audit-friendly workflows that sit alongside GDPR-era expectations for traceability and defensible documentation.

04

Planets

Deploy dedicated planets that work like the Artworks planet—same certificate, custody, and verification flows—scoped to a vertical, estate, partner program, or white-label brand. Spin up a world without re-implementing the core stack.

05

Provenance valuation model

A structured valuation system inspired by how major institutions such as The Met think about objects: weave together documented provenance, news and public sentiment, materials and condition notes, live market signals, and artist-level analysis—then synthesize them into a transparent, defensible artwork valuation you can revisit as the story of the work evolves.

Get Started

Begin documenting your artwork's journey today. Create your first certificate of authenticity and start building the provenance record that will protect and enhance your work's value for years to come.
